The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is an entertainment console that is meant to be integrated into your existing home theater arrangement. The console is capable of playing video games, video files and music. Additionally, it can connect to the internet and your home network. While the PS3 is able to play a variety of media in different file formats, there are some file formats that require additional effort. Among these are ISO files, which are complete copies of the data that was previously on a disc. Using a media server application, it is possible to play an ISO file on a PS3.
Navigate to the download page for a PS3 media server application of your choice.
Click the 'Download' button, then choose the option to save the file to your computer.
Double-click the downloaded file, then follow the prompts until the installation is complete.
Click the 'Start' button in the lower left corner of the screen, then select the 'All Programs' option. Scroll to the program you just installed, then click it to launch the media server.
Select the 'Library' option and click the option to add a new item or file. Navigate to your ISO file and select it.
Click the 'Settings' option and verify that you have the PlayStation 3 selected as your playback device, then verify that the media server is running.
Turn on your PlayStation 3 and log into your user account.
Scroll to the 'Video' menu using the left and right arrow keys, then use the up and down arrow keys to select the media server you just installed.
Select your ISO file to begin playing it on your PS3.
Tips
If you are unable to connect a media server to your PS3, consider burning the ISO file to a disc by selecting the 'Burn image to disc' option in your disc burning software. These types of files are in a format that is very compatible with disc burning, and the discs can then be inserted and played through the PS3 disc drive.
